Jameson Cell Performs As Tested

Jameson Cell has been proven in more than 450 installations around the world in base and precious metals, coal, industrial minerals, oil sands, and more. This means that no matter your flowsheet, the Jameson Cell can deliver you more concentrate for less. The technology has proven 1:1 scale-up performance from both laboratory cell and pilot rig test work. So you’ll know exactly what results a full scale operational Jameson Cell will produce in your flotation plant.

Greater Availability - Easier to Maintain

Jameson Cell has no moving parts, and this means it gives you reliable froth flotation with a promise of 99% availability or uptime. There are no agitators inside the Jameson Cell, keeping the cell simple and reliable.

The downcomers of your Jameson Cell can be inspected while your flotation cell is operating. This means routine maintenance can be conducted without affecting availability. It's also fast and simple to perform.

Greater Efficiency – Needs Just One Pass

Jameson Cell can deliver the equivalent concentrate upgrade of three stages of conventional mechanical bank cleaning. Each unit also has a high carrying capacity ability and efficient operation means very quick target mineral recovery. All of this means target results can be achieved in much fewer units, resulting in reduced footprint and capital costs.

How Your Jameson Cell Works

The Downcomer is what makes the Jameson Cell extremely efficient. Feed is pumped under high pressure into the downcomer(s) (via a distributor for multi-downcomer cells) and the jet of liquid shears and entrains air from the atmosphere into fine bubbles.

Those bubbles are the perfect size to maximise recovery but to avoid froth management issues in the cell and downstream processing. They are literally at a ‘sweet spot’ in bubble size. Jameson Cell bubbles create typically around six times more surface area for the particles to collide with and attach to than conventional flotation cells.

The high air to pulp ratio and the intense mixing generated in the downcomers of the Jameson Cell means bubbles attach rapidly to particles. This results in very high cell carrying capacities.

And this reduces the size of the tank you need for the system, needing only enough space for bubbles and slurry to disengage from each other in the tank pulp zone. The design means that mineral rich bubbles can float to the liquid surface in a tank without any agitation.

Finally, in the froth zone, the grade of the concentrate is controlled by froth washing. This feature reduces the recovery of any fine particle gangue minerals, significantly improving the concentrate quality.

Big Gains, Small Footprint

A Jameson Cell occupies much less space and delivers much more concentrate than other flotation cells. For example, in one flotation plant, we replaced 63 conventional cells with just 19 Jameson Cells.

More Than 450 Jameson Cell Installations Around The World

There are already more than 450 Jameson Cells installed and in operation around the world- including Australia, South America, North America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Our clients include BHP, Rio Tinto, Glencore, Vale, Anglo American, Teck, Ivanhoe, First Quantum, Barrick, Newmont, Antofagasta, Minsur, Hudbay, and more.

"The Mount Isa Copper Concentrator has operated two Jameson Cells in pre-flotation and slag cleaner duties, very successfully, for over 15 years. In 2015 we installed three 18 downcomer Jameson Cells to replace the cleaner circuit consisting of 3 columns and 7 banks of mechanical cells. We've seen significant improvements in operability and maintenance intensity translating to improved recovery at a reduced cost."
