Unlocking Efficiency and Boosting Recovery: Glencore Technology at CIM 2025
Brisbane, Australia
Glencore Technology is gearing up for the CIM Conference & Exhibition 2025 in Montreal, and we're sharing how our flotation technologies are driving significant improvements in mining operations.
This year, two compelling technical papers on the Jameson Cell will be presented on Tuesday, May 6th, showcasing the real-world impact of this innovative technology. Join us to delve into these case studies that highlight enhanced capacity, improved recovery, and optimised concentrate grades.
Piloting of Jameson Cell Technology at the Goldex Mine
Presented by Geometallurgist Mahe Auch-Roy
The Goldex Complex, now processing ore from the Akasaba West mine, presented a unique opportunity to refine its Au-Cu flotation circuit. Recognising the potential for enhanced gold and copper recovery and concentrate grade, a strategic approach integrating process mineralogy with a pilot-scale trial of the renowned Jameson Cell technology was implemented.
Mahe Auch-Roy's presentation will detail how mineralogical analysis pinpointed copper losses within fine particles, indicating areas for improvement in the existing flotation process. In response, the Jameson Cell was rigorously tested on the rougher feed stream at a pilot scale.
The results speak volumes: the Jameson Cell demonstrated the ability to closely match the existing flotation circuit's overall copper recovery (approximately 87% Cu) while achieving a remarkable increase in concentrate grade, from 3% to 11% Cu. Furthermore, the gold grade-recovery performance saw significant improvements, doubling the current concentrate grade and boosting recovery by up to 20%.
These pilot tests consistently outperformed conventional cells, firmly establishing the Jameson Cell's potential for rougher duty in the flotation of Au-Cu ores, paving the way for enhanced operational efficiency and sustained production success at the Goldex Mine.
Maximising Flotation Capacity: A Case Study on the Impact of Jameson Cell Technology at Pogo Operation
Presented by Senior Metallurgist Carter Lawrence
Faced with the ambitious goal of increasing annual gold production from 200koz to 300koz, Northern Star Resources' Pogo operation identified the flotation circuit capacity as a critical bottleneck. Compounding the challenge was the limited footprint within the existing flotation building and the complexities associated with expansion.
Carter Lawrence's presentation will explore the strategic selection and seamless implementation of a single Jameson Cell, a high-intensity flotation technology known for its significantly compact footprint compared to conventional alternatives.
Operating as a rougher scalper, the Jameson Cell at Pogo has proven to be a game-changer. It produces final concentrate directly from the rougher feed, and consistently achieves over 90% metal recovery at an impressive 47 g/t Au on average. This innovative approach immediately removes a significant mass as final concentrate, enabling Pogo to increase flotation throughput to an astounding 160% of its original capacity with the installation of just one Jameson Cell.
This case study will delve into the operational advantages and remarkable performance improvements achieved through the application of the Jameson Cell, highlighting its capacity to dramatically increase plant throughput within space constraints and offering significant upgrade potential from a single, highly efficient cell.
